The UCRH facilitates placements for nursing students across a range of universities.
The UCRH Grafton campus coordinates the largest number of nursing student placements. These students are placed at Grafton Base Hospital, Maclean District Hospital and various community settings. The majority of these students are from Southern Cross University and the University of New England, with a small number from Charles Darwin University and Central Queensland University. Many of the students require accommodation at the on-site student accommodation centre, which houses a large range of student disciplines.
While on placements the nursing students are offered many educational activities including Simulation Based Education, Student-led Grand Rounds, Hospital In-services, workshops and debrief sessions. In recent years over 85% of the nursing students who come through the Grafton campus rated their placement as “Excellent”.
Murwillumbah and Lismore also host a smaller number of nursing students. The smaller number of nursing placements offered in Lismore and Murwillumbah is due to the greater presence of Southern Cross University in administering its nursing program.
